A Brief Background:

Ayurveda is a very ancient system of health care originating in India in the 10th Century BC, taking its current form between the 5th Century BC and the 5th Century AD meaning it has the longest clinical experience of any contemporary system of health care!

Since Indian independence in 1947 Ayurveda is once again flourishing in the Indian Subcontinent and is now also increasingly available within Europe, Australia and the United States. There are many internationally re-known Ayurvedic Doctors such Dr Deepak Chopra and Dr Vasant Lad coming to the fore with an increasing number of famous advocates such as Prince Charles, Richard Gere, Barbara Streisland, Madonna and Goldie Hawn.

Who can benefit from Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a beautiful system of health care whereby we can both work to optimize our own health, or return to balance when we are unwell and out of balance; meaning it is preventative as well as prescriptive.

When we are well we will still usually experience small fluctuations in our physical, mental and emotional states and mostly these are quickly overcome as we naturally compensate for them. However as the science of life Ayurveda recognizes the body has an innate intelligence and this can easily be spoilt when we continue to act against this intelligence by for example ingesting foods or taking a form of exercise which do not suit our own natural physiology and psychology. The good news is that we can learn the basics of ayurvedic knowledge and use this knowledge to help us maintain our innate health and happiness.

Very significantly Ayurveda recognizes many stages in the development of disease where at first there are general signs of imbalance which can be easily addressed, later there are symptoms which may come and go and are becoming increasingly strong and able to interfere with our ability to function and later still there can be a specific disease state possibly with secondary complications. This is significant for us because it means we can act at any stage to return to balance, even when we know there is something wrong but it is not yet possible to give it a name. This makes Ayurveda a very powerful lens through which to see how disease slowly develops over time knowing if we can address the early signs then we can bring a halt to the disease process!

Some common conditions for which there are excellent Ayurvedic Protocols are:

  • Chronic stress and tension
  • Digestive Ailments such as Chronic Constipation, Acid Indigestion, Anemia, & I.B.S
  • Menstrual and Menopausal Imbalances, also gynecological conditions such as Fibroids, Endometriosis, Infertility
  • Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia, M.E. Hypertension, Addictions, Obesity
  • Chronic skin complaints such as Eczema and Psoriasis
  • Arthritis, Osteoporosis, Tinnitus and many more…….

For all conditions we will always seek to address the causative factors rather than simply treating your symptoms and when the condition is irreversible we can always work towards improving your quality of life. Where necessary it is also of course possible to work in conjunction with allopathic medical treatment.
